Boys Soccer: One Win, One Tie

Heading into this week of play with an impressive 6-2 record, the Viking boys soccer team built upon its momentum from recent matches as they demolished Bishop Hartley and tied Whitehall-Yearling.

On Thursday, September 20, the Maroon and Gray traveled out to Bishop Hartley where they controlled all eighty minutes of play. The Hawks played strong possessive ball, but this was no match for the Vikings’ offensive barrage led by Blake Chiovaro’20 (1 goal) and seniors Tyler Schlonsky (1 goal) and David Barren (2 goals). Junior Ezra Johnson helped set up two of these goals, with his duo of assists instrumental in the Viking victory. As a whole, Hartley was simply outplayed by the thriving Vikings.

On Saturday night, September 22, the Vikings enjoyed a drop in the temperature as they hosted Whitehall-Yearling on Hondros Field. A chippy match with plenty of penalties and injuries as a result ultimately culminated in a scoreless match, giving the Vikes their first tie of the season. CA certainly outplayed the Rams in this home challenge, but they were just unable to convert on the scoreboard.

The boys will host Bexley on Wednesday night, September 26, as they hope to take down the rivaled Lions. On Saturday, September 29, they will trek out Lancaster for a night matchup. With a 7-2-1 record now to show, the remaining weeks of play look hopeful for this group.
