As the season progresses and the weather cools down, the Viking boys soccer squad continues to show steady progression on both sides of the field, with a record starting to show for it.
On Wednesday, September 12, the Maroon and Gray challenged the Pioneers of Jonathan Alder at home, with the Vikes winning off of two goals coming from seniors Alex McClellan and Tyler Schonsky. Schlonsky’s goal came off a cross and McClellan’s off a 35-yard chip shot. The Pioneers failed to respond until the final seconds of the game, with the Vikes coming up on top, 2-1.
On Saturday, September 15, the Vikes hoped to add another tally to the win column and extend their record to 6-3. They did just that, winning 3-1 off a dominant 80 minutes on the pitch led by senior Tyler Schlonsky’s two goals and junior Charlie Mueller’s second-half goal, his first of the season. Wellington scored too little, too late, giving the Vikings a 3-1 victory and another boost of momentum.
Next week the Vikes look to continue their groove as they travel to Bishop Hartley on Thursday, September 20, and host Whitehall-Yearling at home on Saturday, September 22.
