Entering this past week with an even 3-3 record, the Viking boys’ soccer squad looked to add two more tallies in its win column as it kicked off league play.
On Wednesday, September 5, the group travelled to challenge Worthington Christian in its first Mid-State matchup. The visiting Vikes were challenged from the start, as the Warriors played with a great defensive pressure, to which Academy responded with poise.
Academy’s midfield held possession for the majority of the minutes, and as a result the Vikings capitalized on two shots. Seniors Jacob Sardo and David Barren led the team to a 2-0 victory with a goal each, and outstanding goalie play by fellow classmates Malcolm Klingbeil’19 and Gunnar Geiger’19 also contributed to this shutout for CA.
Mother nature got in the way Saturday night as the Vikings’ matchup against Whitehall-Yearling was postponed, a sure letdown for the group looking to build on its league record.
The group heads into next week with a winning record and a place on top of league standings in the early season. This week the Vikes will keep to a similar schedule as they host Jonathan Alder on Wednesday, September 12, and Wellington on Saturday afternoon, September 15.
