Boys Soccer Splits Second Week of Play

The Academy boys varsity soccer campaign for the 2018 season is well underway as they head into the start of September matches. Now two weeks and five games into the schedule, the Vikings stand at 3-2, a respectable record for a squad dealing with the loss of numerous key players and experimenting with new additions to the lineup.

The boys’ season kicked off on August 18 as Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy trekked south to challenge the Vikings on Hondros Field. Academy cruised through the minutes and came out with a 3-1 win to open up the year, led by senior Alex McClellan’s two goals.

The following Wednesday, August 22, the Vikes traveled out to Bishop Rosecrans with hopes of following Saturday’s momentum. The visiting maroon and gray did just that, taking a 3-0 victory on the road.

Looking to extend their win streak to three, the Vikings took on Pickerington North at home on August 25. The three combined goals scored by the senior trio of Tyler Schlonsky, McClellan, and Colin Sullivan were not enough to beat the talented Panther squad, who took a 6-3 win, handing CA its first loss of the season.

The action continued this week as Academy challenged the Wildcats of Westerville South at home and in the heat on Thursday night, August 30, losing 2-0.

Following these two consecutive losses, the Vikings bounced back Saturday, September 1, as they hosted Bloom Carroll, winning 4-3 in a match cut short due to stormy weather. Sullivan led the team in scoring with two goals, and Evan Scott’19 and McClellan each tacked on a goal of their own, giving Academy a 4-3 win.

The Vikes will head out to Worthington Christian on Wednesday night, September 5, and host Whitehall-Yearling on Saturday night, September 8, as they hope to expand on their winning record.
