The CA boys lacrosse team split a pair of contests, stumbling against Dublin Scioto before overpowering Gahanna Lincoln.
The Vikings traveled to Dublin Scioto on Thursday, May 3, and couldn’t keep up, falling 13-9. The squads went back-and-forth to open the game, and the score was knotted at 3 by the end of the first quarter.
In the second period, the Irish stepped on the gas. They ripped off four unanswered goals, and took complete control going into halftime.
Scioto picked up right where it left off coming out of the break, extending the advantage to 8-3. Sophomore Charlie Yaw stopped the bleeding with his second goal, but the Irish tacked on two more to take their largest lead of the night as the final quarter began.
Academy refused to go down without a fight, as the Vikes thoroughly outplayed Scioto in the game’s closing minutes. But the rally was too late, and the Irish came away with the victory. Junior Gunnar Geiger and sophomore Andrew Swartz each had hat tricks to lead CA.
The Vikes then hosted Gahanna Lincoln on Thursday, May 3, and dispatched the Lions, 12-8. Academy unleashed its frustration from weeks of inconsistent play and successfully defended its home turf. Yaw led the Vikings with four goals and Swartz had another hat trick.
Perhaps the most important aspect of the win was the long-awaited return of star junior Malcolm Klingbeil, who had been nursing a torn ACL. Though his movement was limited, Klingbeil still managed to net a pair of goals in his season debut, and his presence will give CA a major boost moving forward.
The Vikes will close their regular season by hosting Delaware Hayes on Tuesday, May 8, before traveling to clash with arch-rival Bexley on Friday, May 11.
