The CA boys track team burst into the week with an exciting Senior Night on Monday, April 23. In the the Vikes first home meet, they raced against Centerburg and enjoyed low-stress events full of friendly competition.
Academy transitioned to tougher contests on Friday, April 27, when the Vikings raced in the Milt Will Invitational at Canal Winchester. In a field featuring numerous Division I teams, the boys struggled to place as high as their typical standard.
Senior Karibi Hart, however, was the anomaly. He darted down the track in the 100 and 200 meter dash, claiming second and first, respectively. Hart ran a time of of 11.44 in the 100 and 22.77 in the 200.
Senior Chris Heermann and freshman Luke Nester also stood tall in the distance events. Heermann flew around the track in the 1600, running a personal best of 4:47.40 and taking fourth. Bounding in only two seconds later, Nester grabbed fifth.
Senior Nick Watson and sophomore Charlie Sabgir represented CA in the 3200, the longest event of the meet. Watson finished in third with a time of 10:06.51, and Sabgir followed him across the finish line fourteen seconds later to nab fifth.
Freshmen Jared Kass and Sam Huyghe, along with sophomore Sam Massick and junior David Barren, ran Academy’s highest placing relay of the night, the 4×200. The boys sprinted to fourth place with a time of 1:37.45.
The boys race at home on Monday, April 30, before competing again on Friday, May 4, in the Africentric Track and Field Invitational, and onSaturday, May 5, at the Mount Gilead Invitational.
