The CA boys lacrosse team hosted St. Charles on Monday, April 23, yet couldn’t build upon its recent success, losing 7-3.
With the rainy conditions playing a factor, both offenses started slowly. The Vikings finally drew first blood on a goal from sophomore Charlie Yaw and held an advantage after the opening quarter.
The Cardinals pulled even just seconds into the second period, but Academy didn’t flinch. Sophomore Andrew Swartz slashed inside and shoveled the ball past the goalkeeper to snatch a 2-1 lead for his team at the half.
Unfortunately, the Vikes wouldn’t be ahead for long. St. Charles ripped off three unanswered goals, taking complete control heading into the fourth.
The squads exchanged scores to begin the quarter, but CA couldn’t close the gap. The Cardinals tacked on a pair of goals to put the game out of reach, sealing a victory.
Though the Vikings have struggled this year, they still have time to right the ship before the postseason. Academy travels to Dublin Scioto on Thursday, May 3, before returning home for a clash with Gahanna Lincoln on Saturday, May 5.
