The inaugural CA Earth Day 5k started off with a resounding cheer. Spectators and volunteers watched as runners and walkers of all ages ran the scenic trails throughout CA. Nathanial Sutton’10 won with a time of 18:33

When the race was over, everyone came together to plant cattails around the retention pond. Nearly 60 cattails were replanted in the hope that red-winged blackbirds, who used to make their nests in the wetlands would return to CA.

Student body’s VP, Nick Robie’18, planner of the event, said, “It was a blast to have the opportunity to organize an event like this, and I’m so grateful for all the volunteers and support who made it possible. I hope that the event can continue in the future and continue to grow with Academy’s appreciation of the environment!”
