The Academy girls track team competed at two meets this past week, placing second at CSG and taking sixth at New Albany.

As temperatures heated up, so did the Vikes. They traveled to CSG on Tuesday, April 10, and dominated the field events, with sophomore Mabry Nichols snatching first in the high jump and senior Khloe Dubenion following suit in discus. Then, senior Lexis Hughes grabbed second in shot put to keep the momentum rolling.

On the track, seniors Muriel Goldfarb and Bri Dragin placed second and third in the 100 meter dash, respectively. Goldfarb also placed second in the 200 meter and second in the 4×400, along with juniors Mercedes Crestanello and Samantha Kass, and freshman Regan Cornelius.

The girls notched several other second-place finishes, including Kass in the 400 meter, Cornelius in the 800 meter, and junior Maddie Tuckerman in the 1600 meter.

Following the strong performance, CA looked ahead to a tough competition at New Albany later in the week. Despite this invitational consisting of many Division 1 teams, the girls held their own, as the Vikings had multiple solid individual finishes.

Sophomore Kiersten Thomassey placed third in the 100 meter dash in her first-ever school meet, while classmate Annalise Grammel placed fourth in the 1600 before placing third in the 4×400 with Crestanello, Kass, and Cornelius.

The squad’s upcoming meets are at home on Tuesday, April 17, at Gahanna Lincoln on Wednesday, April 18, and at Bloom Carroll on Saturday, April 21.
