The CA boys track team launched into its second week of competition with a meet at CSG on Tuesday, April, 10. The Vikes took first in the 4×200, 4×100, and 4×400 relays due to phenomenal performances from the sprinters. Senior Karibi Hart and sophomore Sam Massick also earned individual victories in the 400 and 200, respectively. As a result of the team’s exceptional work, the boys snatched the overall win against Circleville, Bishop Ready, Village Academy, and Madison Christian.
Psyched for even greater competition, the boys entered the New Albany High School Invitational on Friday, April 13, facing a number of Division I schools. The stronger pool of runners challenged the Vikings but also pushed them to run faster times.
Hart represented Academy’s sprinters in the 100 meter dash: he blazed to an 11.57 and placed third out of sixteen runners. Fellow senior Nick Robie raced with the same intensity in the 1600 and poured out every last ounce of energy to take second with a time of 4:33.40. Then, classmate Nick Watson continued the seniors’ streak of fast races in the 800, notching a personal record of 2:00.56 to earn second against fourteen other runners.
In addition to individual races, Watson, Robie, and seniors Angus Soderberg and Kieran Law represented the Vikes in the 4×400. Only placing behind two massive Division I schools—Westerville Central and Reynoldsburg—the boys earned third with a time of 3:32.93.
CA ended the meet with a score of 58 points and placed sixth overall.
The Vikings will have their first home meet on Tuesday, April 17, before traveling to Gahanna Lincoln for a relay meet on Wednesday, April 18. The Vikes finish out the week on Saturday, April 21, at the Bloom Carroll Invitational.
