After opening its season with a 3-1 record, Academy’s tennis squad looked forward to another busy week. The Vikings rose to the challenge, again winning three of four contests.
To kick off the week, CA hosted Whitehall on Tuesday, April 10. The Vikes dismantled the Rams, sweeping all five courts with ease.
The following day, Wednesday, April 11, Academy stayed home to face a tough Division 1 opponent in Olentangy. The Vikings battled and escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Braves. Although both CA’s first and second singles courts fell, junior Suriya Sundaram, the team of junior Drew Haffer and senior Sam Vogel, and sophomore duo Ryan Wahl and Rhian Seneviratne all conquered their opponents in third singles, first doubles, and second doubles, respectively.
The Vikes traveled to London for their only road match of the week on Thursday, April 12. Academy blew the doors off the Red Raiders, 5-0, with London getting shut out completely on most courts.
Finally, the Vikings returned home to round out their week on Friday, April 13. CA fought St. Xavier, a Division 1 team currently ranked third in the state. Although the Vikes gave a valiant effort, the Bombers proved to be to much, earning a 5-0 win.
Academy’s schedule is packed with four more matches this upcoming week. On Monday, April 16, the boys will travel to Dublin Jerome. The day following, Tuesday, April 17, CA will clash with Wellington on the Jaguars’ home courts. The Vikings will host archrival Bexley on Thursday, April 19, and will close their week with a match at St. Charles on Friday, April 20.
