The CA boys basketball team closed out its regular season by hammering Northside Christian, 69-31. The Vikings finished their impressive campaign with an 18-4 record.
Behind a fast start from senior Addis Boyd, Academy wasted no time establishing its superiority. Boyd scored 7 points in the opening minutes, and the Vikes charged ahead to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter.
The second period featured more dominance from CA. The Lions did everything they could to keep the game competitive but couldn’t find an answer for the Vikings’ swarming defense. On the other end, junior Hayden Compton finished tough layups to help extend his team’s advantage to 20 at the break. Compton finished with 11.
Though Academy had the game in hand, the Vikes refused to step off the gas. Senior Ryan Mitchell scored 10 of his game-high 14 points in the second half, and classmate TJ Whitman stayed hot from long distance with his third triple of the contest. Almost every CA player got into the scoring column, as the squad coasted to victory.
The #6 seed Vikings kick off another run at a district title when they host #16 seed North Union in their first round matchup on Monday, February 26.
