At districts on Friday, February 16, the CA boys swim team qualified for states in eight events. The top two swimmers from each district automatically qualify for states, along with the next 25 fastest times.

All three relays are among the Vikings’ qualifying events.

The 200-medley relay and 400-freestyle relay are seeded in the 8th and 5th spots, respectively. Juniors Jacob Eismann and Jack Campbell, along with sophomore Mike DeAscentis are racing in both relays, with junior Eric DeVore as the fourth member of the 200-medley and senior Max Dreisbach rounding out the 400-freestyle relay team. The 200-freestyle relay is seeded 20th.

Campbell, DeAscentis, Dreisbach, and Eismann all continued to dominate on their way to states, with each moving on in all of their events. The maximum number of events allowed for one person is four, and each swimmer competes in two relays and two individual events.

DeAscentis, a superb freestyle swimmer, will compete for the second year at states in the 200 and 500 freestyle, along with his freestyle relays.

Eismann, dropping nearly three seconds from his sectional time, won the 100-yd freestyle at districts and secured the 2nd seed for states. He also snagged first, just in front of Campbell, in the 100yd backstroke. Both swimmers will compete in the event once more at states, seeded 3rd and 12th, respectively.

Dreisbach is approaching his last meet as a high school swimmer and is ready to make one final splash. With multiple school records and state medals in years past, he is preparing to build upon his extraordinary legacy. On top of his two relays, one competing for the gold, Dreisbach is racing in the 200-yd freestyle and the 100-yd butterfly. He must pull off an upset to podium in the 100 butterfly, as he is seeded 11th. He is the 7th seed, a highly competitive spot, in the 200 free. Hopefully, his years of hard work will pay off in this final competition.

States will be held on Thursday, February 22, and Friday, February 23, in Canton, OH.

Congratulations to Zac Beck, Chris Heermann, Luke Tiberi, Harry Zaye, and Zach Zhou on a superlative final season as Aqua Vikes.
