The CA girls swim team commenced its road to States with the Division II Sectional meet at home on Saturday, February 10. Although the myriad of competitors and top-level talent made this their most challenging meet yet, the Vikings swam with vigor and earned third overall out of eighteen teams.
The girls posted top finishes in the majority of events, placing top ten in races with anywhere from twenty to sixty or more competitors. Junior Samantha Kass beat out 65 swimmers in the 100 free and flew through the pool with a time of 54.54, nabbing first.
The 400 free relay with senior Jane Li, juniors Sarah Cabre and Kass, and sophomore Annalise Grammel, posted another victory, with a time of 3:41.01. Even though the Vikes were seeded below CSG going into this race, they pushed themselves to the last stroke and earned the win.
With a score of 203.5, the girls claimed third by a comfortable margin, beating Granville and Baltimore Liberty Union, the next fastest teams, by a whopping 77.5 points.
The AquaVikes continue their postseason run with Districts at Ohio University on Friday, February 16.
