After a stretch of cancellations and lack of match-ups, the Academy girls basketball team jumped back into the groove of things this past week, taking on Delaware Christian, Village Academy, and Bexley. The Vikings battled through the competition with poise and persistence.

The action kicked off on Tuesday, January 28, as CA took on Delaware Christian at home. A closely contested game resulted in a crucial last few minutes, with the Eagles coming out on top, 47-44. The Vikings showed grit and resolve throughout the entire 32 minutes, with well-rounded and unselfish play coming from all who stepped on the court. The juniors came up big for Academy, as Jenny L’Hommedieu and Shelemiah Crockett led the Vikings with 10 points apiece. CA also got scoring contributions from Aiyana Taylor’19, Emma Belford’20, Alex Phelps’20, Mackenzie Smith’20, Kiersten Thomassey’20, and Charlotte Adams’21.

After the tough loss, the Vikes traveled to Village Academy on Thursday, January 25, looking to return to the win column. CA did exactly that, hammering the Griffins by 20 in a statement victory. Crockett had a monster game, scoring 18 points for the Vikings. Other strong performances came from Tori Abell’18, Lexis Hughes’18, Belford, Thomassey, and Adams.

To cap off its busy week, Academy hit the road once more to take on a talented Bexley squad on Saturday, January 29. The girls fell, 45-25, but the loss came at the hands of a Lions team currently excelling in league play.

The Vikes return to action on Tuesday, January 30, when they host Harvest Prep, before they hit the road on Friday, February 2, to face a strong Grandview Heights team. The Vikes enter the upcoming week with a 4-3 record for the new year, and with the program having taken massive strides towards success, and there should be nothing but optimism for this young team.
