The CA boys basketball team continues to mow down its competition, as the Vikings delivered blowout wins over both Centerburg and Worthington Christian. Academy is one of only two remaining undefeated teams in central Ohio, along with Harvest Prep.
The Vikes traveled to Centerburg on Tuesday, January 23, and pummeled the Trojans, 72-35. CA wasted no time in establishing its dominance. The Vikings blitzed Centerburg with a 13-0 run to begin the game, and six different players had scored by the end of the first quarter. Juniors Chris Boyle and Dorrian Moultrie each finished with 12 points to lead Academy, and senior Addis Boyd had 11 of his own.
The Vikes continued to pour it on, and held a 29-9 advantage at the half. From there, CA coasted to the finish, as every Vikings reserve scored.
Academy then returned home for its Senior Night against Worthington Christian on Friday, January 26, and dominated the Warriors, 55-38. The six seniors honored before the game were Addis Boyd, Davis Friedman, Karibi Hart, Ryan Mitchell, Herman Moultrie, and TJ Whitman. Moultrie’18 had shoulder surgery earlier in the day, and was unable to attend. Unfortunately for the Vikes, the shutdown defender will be out for the rest of the season. The five remaining seniors started for CA.
With a boost of energy from the pregame festivities, the Academy seniors came out hot. Behind two early buckets from Hart, they built a 5-point lead. Mitchell had a three-point play, and Moultrie’19, honoring his brother by wearing his jersey, followed it up with one of his own, as the Vikings held a 17-10 lead after one.
WC desperately tried to claw its way back into the game, but Academy would have none of it. Juniors Dalyn DeCree and Moultrie took over, as the pair scored or assisted on every point the Vikings scored in the second period. DeCree led Academy with 12 points, and Moultrie’19 had 11. CA had a 30-17 advantage at the break, and looked to be in full control.
The Warriors continued to hang around to begin the second half, but couldn’t keep up, as the Vikes gradually pulled away, cruising to another win.
CA will look to build upon its incredible 14-0 record, as the Vikings host Horizon Science Academy on Wednesday, January 31, before taking a trip to Bexley on Friday, February 2.
