On Saturday, January 20, Academy hosted its annual Kevin Michael Invitational. Facing teams from Beechcroft, Columbus East, Hilliard Darby, DeSales, Northland, and Western Reserve Academy, the Vikings held their own, and placed second overall.

Senior Josh Pearson led the way, placing first in the 195 weight class. He beat four opponents total, with three of the wins coming via pin. Fellow senior, Angus Soderberg, was brilliant as well, placing second in the 170 weight class. The Vikings also had an impressive 7 wrestlers place third in their weight classes: freshmen Keir Gorospe, Ethan Stahl, and Chris Sugar, sophomores Sam Lichten and Philip Soderberg, and juniors Cole Duffy and Thomas Jones.

In addition to these great performances, the Vikings also celebrated their captain Pearson’s 100th career wrestling win.

The Vikings hope to continue their momentum with 2 away meets this week. The first, on Wednesday, January 24, is the regional quarterfinal tournament at Northridge. CA then travels to Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 27, to face The Kiski School.
