The girls swimming team hosted its first meet of the week on Friday, December 8, against Delaware Hayes. Academy won the meet opener with Jane Li’18, Abby Yakam’20, Whitney Hannallah’20, and Callista Popp’19 taking the 200-medley relay. Captains Li and Popp continued their phenomenal meet by placing first or second in all of their remaining events. New addition to the school and team, Sarah Cabre’19, gave the Vikings a huge boost, winning all of her events. Despite these great swims, the Vikings barely fell short of first by just 4 points.

Ready to redeem themselves from Friday’s loss, the girls raced Gahanna Lincoln, Westerville North, Bexley, Wellington, and Delaware Hayes at home on Saturday, December 9. This meet was a relay meet, which means there are no individual events, but instead a plethora of relay races.

The 200-medley relay of Inji Kang’19, Abby Yakam’20, Taylor Warren’20, and Sarah Edwards’20, started as a close race, but the Vikes soon turned it on, blowing their competition out of the water and finishing 5 seconds ahead of second place. The girls stole first in several other events, including an impressive display in the 300-breast stroke relay.

The team earned a significant win, walking away with 106 points overall.

The girls team looks to stay hot, swimming at the Ned Reeb Memorial Invitational on Saturday, December 16.
