Girls off to a strong season, with 1st and 2nd place wins. (Chris Heermann’18)

The boys and girls swim team burst into the start of its season with stellar first meet performances at home on Friday, December 1, and at the Athens Invitational on Saturday, December 2.

Competing against Bishop Watterson in a dual meet on Friday, December 1, the girls got the chance to test the waters at home in their first competition and finished first or second in every varsity event, setting a precedent for a strong year. Standout performances include a first place finish from the 400-yard freestyle relay with senior Jane Li, juniors Callista Popp and Sarah Cabre, and sophomore Abby Yakam who swam a time of 4:11.44.

Li also held her own as an individual in the 100-yard butterfly, placing first again in 1:03.31. The girls scored 73 points overall.

The Vikes traveled to a much larger meet in Athens on Saturday, December 2, which included teams from all divisions. Li, sophomores Abby Yakam and Whitney Hannallah, and junior Samantha Kass sped through the pool on the 200 medley relay and broke the meet record for the event.

CA boys and girls earned the overall victory and beat Delaware Hayes, the second place team, by two points.

The Vikes compete again at home on Friday, December 8, and Saturday, December 9.
