The Columbus Academy girls volleyball team entered the heart of league play with back-to-back matches against tough opponents.Heading into the week with a 3-6 overall record, the team desperately needed a win to get back on track.
On Monday, September 18, the Vikings got just that at home against Grandview Heights, snapping their losing streak with a win. Academy executed well against the Bobcats and took a commanding lead early. With a rowdy student section in their corner, the Vikings closed out the victory in four sets.
On Tuesday, September 19, Academy went on the road to face rival Bexley.
The Lions came out firing on all cylinders and took the first set. But the Vikes stormed back with back-to-back victories in the second and third sets. Despite CA’s momentum, the Lions would not go down quietly. With its back against the wall, Bexley grabbed the fourth set.
Only needing one set to win the match, both teams gave outstanding effort in the final frame.Unfortunately, the Vikings were unable to secure the victory and the Lions won the match in five sets.
The Vikings will be back on their home court on Tuesday, September 26, against Grove City Christian and will travel to Worthington Christian on Thursday, September 28.
