Coming off of its first loss of the season, Academy’s field hockey team was ready to get back on track. Playing on their home turf for the first time in almost a month, the Vikes had battles against Bishop Hartley and Olentangy Liberty, and came away from both with wins.
The Vikings worked on connecting better as a team versus Bishop Hartley. This, combined with a positive attitude and renewed motivation, helped Academy beat the Hawks 5-0 on Tuesday, September 12. Along with a stout defense, goals scored by Kiersten Thomassey’20 (2), Mercedes Crestanello’19 (2), and Maddie DeAscentis’18 drove the Vikes to a much-needed victory.
CA’s momentum carried over into its next game, on Thursday, September 14, against Olentangy Liberty. The girls fought hard, and won 6-1. Callista Popp’19 put the Vikings on the board to start the game, but the Patriots were quick to respond with a goal of their own. Academy proceeded to rip off 5 unanswered goals, scored by Angel Watkins’18 (2), Crestanello (2), and Sammie Kass’19.
The Vikings will travel for showdowns against CSG and Thomas Worthington on Monday, September 18, and Tuesday, September 19, respectively.
