Cinemark Movies 16, located in Stone Ridge Plaza, has been running a Studio Ghibli movie series since June that will continue into November. Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animated film studio based in Tokyo.
Its extensive body of work from 1984 to 2014 is comparable to Disney movies in its elements of fantasy and colorful animation. Ghibli films sometimes focus on deeper themes, such humans’ effects on the environment, the nature of greed, and the shady side of politics. There is something for everyone to enjoy in these films for Ghibli’s cult-like following.
Featured on September 24 and 25 will be Nausicaä Of the Valley Of the Wind. On October 29 and 30, Howl’s Moving Castle will be shown. Finally, Spirited Away will be the final film from Ghibli on November 26 and 27.
The first date of each movie will be dubbed in English, and the second dare will have English subtitles with dialogue in Japanese.
