Girls Tennis Bounces Back

After a dominant start to the season, the girls tennis team’s confidence was riding high, heading into a showdown with Olentangy Liberty on Wednesday, August 30. Unfortunately, the Patriots got the best of Academy, winning 4-1.

In first singles, senior Georgia Tuckerman put up a good fight against freshman phenom Maddie Atway, who took the match 6-4, 6-1.

Playing second singles, junior Himaja Reddy also lost her match 6-0, 6-0, to Patriots freshman Dani Schoenly.

In third singles, junior Maddie Tuckerman fought hard, but came up short, losing her court 4-6, 6-3, 1-0.

A highlight of the match came from the first doubles pairing of freshmen Sydni Ratliff and Lauren Motta, as they won their court 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.

In second doubles, Lexis Hughes’18 and Alex Graham’20 dropped their match 6-3, 6-1.

Despite the tough loss, the girls bounced back against Whitehall on Thursday, August 31, unleashing their frustration in a dominant win. They swept all five courts, dropping zero sets and only one game in total.

The team looks to build on this momentum in its upcoming home matches. On Wednesday, September 6, the Vikes battle Dublin Coffman, and on Thursday, September 7, Academy hosts London.
