After a stellar first place at districts, Academy’s girls were eager to compete at regionals this week. The competition was tough, but the team fought hard and won an impressive fourth place out of 43 teams.

If a competitor places fourth or above in any individual event, she will move on to the state tournament.

The Vikings started off with an amazing first place finish in the 4×800 relay, run by Annalise Grammel’20, Samantha Kass’19, and seniors Jessica Griffin and Audrey Grammel.

This was followed by a close fourth place finish in the 4×200, which was run by Kass, Griffin, and juniors Bri Dragin and Muriel Goldfarb.

Academy placed seventh in the 4×100, run by Dragin, Goldfarb, Ginnie Ma’19 and Sarah Neltner’20. Although the relay team will not advance to states, it has another year to work harder, for none of the girls on it are graduating.

In the 400, Griffin placed seventh, with a time of 1:01.00.

Grammel’17 placed first overall in the 800, with a time of 2:16.33.

Grammel’20 placed fifth in the 3200, with a time of 11:33.87.

Rounding out the running victories was Academy’s 4×400 team. Run by Kass, Griffin, Grammel, and Mercedes Crestanello’19, it placed fourth overall.

Junior Khloe Dubenion placed seventh in the discus. Lexis Hughes’18 placed sixteenth in the shot-put, and Ma placed thirteenth in the long jump.

On Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3, the Vikings will travel to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Ohio State’s campus for the state track meet.
