Boys Lacrosse Eliminated in District Quarterfinals

The CA boys lacrosse team saw its season come to an end on Friday, May 19, as the Vikings fell to Worthington Kilbourne in the district quarterfinals, 12-5.

Feeding off its raucous home crowd, the Wolves began the game with a boost of energy. They attacked Academy’s defense relentlessly and took a 4-0 lead after the first quarter. Kilbourne continued to click offensively, stretching its lead to 7 midway through the second period. Watching its season slip away, CA swung back and put 3 goals on the board before the break. This is as close as Coach Ewert’s squad would get, however, as the Wolves deftly staved off the resilient Vikes in the second half, cruising to victory.

It will be tough for the program to regroup next season after another great senior class graduates, but Academy’s young talent will soften the blow.

The 3 leading goal-scorers for the Vikings will all return, in sophomores David Barren and Malcolm Klingbeil and freshman Andrew Swartz. Other notable returnees include juniors Zac Beck, Mike Beockman, and Luke Tiberi, sophomores Billy Bates and Gunnar Geiger, and freshman goalie Philip Soderberg.

Despite their early exit from the postseason, the Vikes still had a great season and have many positives to carry into next year.
