The Vikings took the field Monday, May 8, against Fairbanks in the first round of districts.
Sophomore Hayden Compton was on the mound, pitching well through six innings.
The scored was locked at two apiece in the bottom of the fifth, when Fairbanks singled off Compton to grab a 4-2 lead.
Unfortunately for the Vikes, there was no offense left in the tank. Fairbanks defeated Academy 6-2, ending the Vikings’ tournament hopes.
This was a tough loss for Academy, one that will remain in the minds of the coaching staff and players as they prepare for next season.
That was not the last game for the Vikings, however, as Academy decided to finish the games that were on the schedule.
On Friday, May 12, the Vikes played an exhibition match against Newark Catholic. Academy was unable to find its stride, suffering the 5-1 defeat.
The Vikings are scheduled to finish the postponed game with Bexley on Tuesday, May 17, a perfect opportunity to send the seniors off on top.
