The girls track team had another successful run, maintaining its streak of high placings in meets at CSG on Tuesday, May 2, placing 3rd—and ranking second Mt. Gilead’s Invitational—on Saturday, May 6.
In the cold and rain, Vikings competed at Kirk Campus on the Unicorns’ Senior Night. The girls put in their all and placed 3rd out of four teams, due to a lack of event participation, including a noticeable absence from all relay events.
Freshman Mabry Nichols placed 1st in the long jump, sophomore Ginnie Ma placed second in the long jump, and junior Khloe Dubenion placed first in the discus.
Ma also placed second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles.
Academy also swept the 800, with first, second, and third places taken by seniors Audrey Grammel and Jessica Griffin, and by Samantha Kass’19, respectively.
Annalise Grammel’20 placed first in the 3200.
Academy put its best foot forward at Mt. Gilead, competing fiercely and winning an outstanding second place out of 12 teams, only losing to Mt. Gilead.
The victories started off with a bang as our 4×200 relay, run by Kass, Griffin, Muriel Goldfarb’18, and Mercedes Crestanello’19, placed 1st overall.
Grammel’17 placed 2nd in the 1600. Griffin also placed first in the 400 dash, and was followed closely by Kass, who placed 4th.
Grammel’17 took place first in the 800. Griffin placed 3rd in the 200, and subsequently helped our 4×400 team, Grammel’17, Griffin, Kass, and Crestanello, placed first overall.
Nichols also secured a first place in the high jump, and Dubenion placed third in the discus.
The Vikings have meets on Tuesday, May 9, and Friday, May 12, both at Whitehall Yearling High School for the MSL tournament.
