Rhee Recognized For Strong Opinion Writing

It’s that time of year again: activities’ periods are filled with awards assemblies, and Honors Assembly is just around the corner. Unlike the arts and foreign language awards, however, there’s one award that Academy doesn’t receive every year.

Senior Tristan Rhee, dedicated writer for The Academy Life—and its managing editor—has won the runner-up for The Marty Award for Best Opinion Writing.

The Martys, co-hosted by the Central Ohio Society of Professional Journalists and Dispatch Media Group, are an annual editorial contest for high school journalists. The contest was created in 2011 to honor Martin Rozenman, a journalist who worked for various Columbus publications for over 25 years.

Rhee’s “Americans Should Value Substance Over Symbolism,” garnered attention for his eloquent writing about Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand during the national anthem.

Rhee’s 30-plus articles for The Academy Life show his laudable dedication to the school newspaper, beginning as a freshman staff writer.

As the paper’s managing editor, Rhee has helped to proofread nearly every article that has gotten posted on “The Life.” He has also written numerous articles of his own and co-managed the Sports section. Additionally, Rhee has been a member of the team behind everyone’s favorite broadcast, “Nate’s Declassified.”

Even when other classmates have gotten tired, Rhee has never faltered.

I believe I can speak for the entirety of The Academy Life when I say that Tristan Rhee’s strong leadership and enthusiasm will be missed next year.

Congratulations, Tristan. This is well-deserved.
