3 out of 4 Wins for Girls Lacrosse

(Julia Gurevitz’19/Media Team)

From April 17-22, the girls lacrosse team faced four opponents and clasped a win from all but one competitor.

Its first match-up on April 17, Thomas Worthington, took an 11-9 win, even as the Vikes fought their best to the end.

Seniors Michelle Daoud and Baylee Mueller, sophomores Lexi Leader and Tani Obikunle, and freshman Kirsten Thomassey  scored goals, with Kelly Antoine‘18 making some tremendous saves—one resulted in a counter attack goal from Mueller. Unfortunately, the girls had some unlucky shots and missed opportunities.

In its match against Wellington on Wednesday, April 19, our girl overpowered the Jaguars in 16-1 win. Mueller had five goals, and senior defender Natalie L’Hommedieu with her first goal of the season. Sophomore Sydney Hill also had a standout game, not only with her goal and assist, but also with her draw controls and ground balls.

With a short three day break, the girls prepared for their Saturday games against Hinsdale and Hathaway Brown. The matches took place at Thomas Worthington, with Academy coming home with wins against both teams.

The Vikes faced Bishop Watterson on Tuesday, April 25th. Watterson has historically been a tough opponent, and this particular game was no exception.

With the first half resulting in a relative stalemate, the team came out and continued to battle, eventually gaining a solid lead to finish 13-8 against a quality team.

The Vikes faced CSG’s Unicorns on Kirl campus on April 27.  With starting goalie Antoine out with a concussion, the girl’s had a tough game ahead of them.

Close to the end in the first half it was a 6-6. With 37 seconds left, the Unicorns scored,  putting them at a 7-6 lead going into the second half.

Although the Unicorns did put points on the board in the second half, they never caught up with the Vikings, who triumphed with 13-10.

Junior Sarah Belford scored the first goal of the second half, tying up the game. Academy gained three quick goals in a row, two from Obikunle‘19 and another from Belford.

The team has three more regular season match-ups before post-season. The Vikings play at Desales at 7pm on Tuesday, May 2.
