Two Wins for Baseball

With only two games, it was a quick week for the Columbus Academy baseball team.

On Wednesday, April 12, the Vikes took on Grandview Heights in a low scoring affair.

The Vikings outlasted the Bobcats, thanks to a solid pitching performance from senior Nick Stringer, along with the team’s timely offense.

Both the Vikings and Bobcats settled in defensively early on, until the bottom of the fourth inning when senior Darren Bates smashed a two-run home run down the right-field line.

The Vikings knocked in another run, helping them hold onto a win with a 3-1 score.

On Thursday, April 13, the Vikings faced a difficult task as they faced off against Worthington Christian.

Academy was locked in from the beginning, with outstanding defense all throughout the game.

Junior Davis Friedman came up with a fantastic diving catch in the outfield to help freshman Noah Glimcher pitch five scoreless innings.

Strong hitting from junior Ryan Mitchell’18 led the offense and Hayden Compton’19 achieved a tricky base running.

Junior Matt Saling got the save, finishing with two scoreless innings on the way to a 3-0 victory for the Vikings.

The team has won four out of its last six games and looks to continue its hot streak with another four upcoming games this coming week.
