Stellar Week for Girls Track

(Photo/Ally Sabgir’18)

The girls track team has worked hard and so far had strong showings in each meet this season’s meets, including a first place victory.

The Vikings’ first home meet on Wednesday, April 12, was a resounding success, starting off with a strong 1st place run on the 100 meter hurdles by Ginnie Ma’19.

Muriel Goldfarb’18 got 3rd in the 100 meter dash.

Both the 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay, run by seniors Audrey Grammel and Jess Griffin, plus 9th graders, Samantha Kass and Mercedes Crestanello placed first.

Our girls also swept the podium on the mile: Annalise Grammel’20, Lily Kaufman’17, and Callista Popp’19 placed first through third, respectively. Grammel also placed second to her sister, Audrey Grammel’17, in the 800 meter dash. With such strong showings in almost every event, it was fitting for the Vikings to place first.

Our girls hoped to continue this streak when they travelled to Heath for the Hank Smith Invitational on Saturday, April 16. Most of the strong results of the day came from relays; Academy placed 4th in the 4×200 and 1st in the 4×400, with Grammel’17, Griffin,  Kass and Crestanello’20

In addition, senior Jessica Griffin won the 400 meter dash, an impressive feat at such a highly competitive invitational. Although the team did not compete in a few events, its results were good enough to merit a 6th place finish out of 18 teams.
