The Vikings kicked off league on Monday, April 3, against the Whitehall-Yearling’s Rams.
It was a convincing 10-0 victory for Academy, which scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Sophomore Nick Rothmann, junior Matt Saling, and senior Matt Schmitz combined for the shutout win, allowing a total of four hits all game.
On Wednesday, April 5, the Vikings traveled to West Jefferson to take on the Rough Riders.
It was a back and forth game between the Mid-State League foes.
After a slow start, the Vikings fought back to tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the fifth.
Unfortunately, the game was called due to severe weather in the bottom of the sixth.
The game will resume when West Jefferson comes to Academy on April 24.
On Friday, April 7th, The Vikings were scheduled to play Worthington Christian at home, and this game will be rescheduled.
Mother nature was not an issue on Saturday, April 11, as the Vikings headed to Bishop Watterson High School to face off against the talented Eagles.
The Vikings got off to a sluggish start, allowing six quick runs in the bottom of the first.
It was an uphill battle as the Watterson pitching staff shut down Academy’s hitters.
When the Vikings finally did get on the scoreboard, it was too little too late. The game ended with a final score of 11-1 in favor of Watterson.
The Vikings look to jump back on track at home Wednesday, April 12, against Grandview Heights at 5:15.
