Girls Track Puts Best Step Forward

After last year’s 2nd place district finish and strong individual showings at regionals, the girls track team was eager to come back for another year. After a spring break filled with practices, the team was ready to compete. Although they did not place first overall in either meet they had this week, our girls proved they are yet again a formidable opponent.

The Vikings travelled to Bexley on Wednesday, March 29, for a face-off against the Lions and the Whitehall Rams. The small meet was a great way to jump back into things, for the girls were evenly matched in every race they ran.

Highlights included sophomore Ginnie Ma’s astounding 100 meter hurdles run, in which she got first place, Audrey Grammel’17 and Annalise Grammel’20 placing in the top three for the 1600 meter, and our girls’ 4×400 meter relays, which have consistently advanced in the postseason before.

Riding off of the adrenaline from their previous meet, our girls headed to Liberty Union for their annual invitational on Saturday, April 1. This meet was different from most other meets during the season because it was a relay meet, meaning that all races run were relays, as opposed to individuals.

Our girls had stellar performances in the 4×400, the 4×200, and the 4×100, placing third, second, and second respectively. The team placed 5th out of 8 schools, an admirable result, considering that the Vikings did not have girls running in every race.

After this week’s strong start, the Vikings will continue moving forward with meets on Monday, April 3, at Worthington Christian and Saturday, April 8, at Big Walnut.
