The CA boys basketball team cruised past #13 seed West Jefferson in the second round of sectionals on Wednesday, March 1. With a 72-43 win, the Vikings have advanced to the sectional final for the second straight year.
As Academy got off to a blazing start, the Roughriders had no answer for senior Ryan Alexander, who scored at will. He finished with 16 points to lead the Vikes.
At the other end, CA’s physical brand of defense rattled West Jeff into many turnovers and missed shots. Academy had a 22-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
Junior Addis Boyd and sophomore Dorrian Moultrie finished in the paint throughout the entire second period, and by halftime, the Vikings had amassed a 37-14 lead. The bench played the majority of the second half, and CA waltzed to a 31-point victory.
Though Academy has dominated the tournament thus far, the games will only get tougher from here.
The Vikes will play #10 seed Mount Gilead on Saturday, March 4, with a sectional championship and a berth to the district semifinals on the line.
