The Aquavikes suited up for a long day of successful swimming on Friday, February 17, with the girls placing runners up and the boys landing first place!

The team competed against all central district schools, in addition to schools in the other three districts.

The top two swimmers from each district—for each event—automatically qualify for states, followed by the next 16 fastest times overall. Throughout the rigorous 5-hour meet, the swimmers cheered on their teammates, who prepared themselves for the hardest competition yet.

The boys had at least one swimmer in each event, and finished the night with a first place district title, now two years in the running. Five boys will move onto states individually, as well as all three relays teams.

Nate Goldfarb’17, one of the five individual qualifiers, is seated first for states at 56.95 in the 100yard breaststroke. Last year’s state champion, Hudson McDaniel, is seated second only 0.66 seconds behind Goldfarb. Both boys will be going head-to-head for the state title. Goldfarb is also individually competing in the 200 IM.

Max Dreisbach’18 will compete in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. Seated fifth and ninth, respectively, Dreisbach plans to podium in both events.  Dreisbach and Goldfarb hope to bring back a first place state title in the medley relay.

Sophomore Jacob Eismann had an outstanding meet. He placed third in the 50-yard freestyle, which puts him in the sixth spot for states. Eismann’s best race came later on in the meet when he broke the meet record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.43, and will move onto states in the top 8.

We also have to keep an eye out for Jack Campbell’19 and Mike DeAsectis’20 who are each swimming two individual events at states.

Eric Devore’19 and seniors Dylan Warren and Tin Le will also head to Canton for relays. The team has not yet finalized the swimmers racing in the 400 and 200 freestyle relays.

Our phenomenal divers of Anna Derrow’17, Esther Lawrence’18, and Jordan Skilken’19, led the girls to a second place district title for the second year in a row. Lawrence, Skilken, and Derrow, finished in the top three spots, respectively.

Lawrence broke both the school and the state record! this past weekend! Lawrence and Skilken will move on to states.

Sophomore Sammie Kass will be completing in two relays and the 50-yard freestyle. With some tough competition, Kass slid into that 24th qualifying spot with a personal best time of 24.84. Jane Li’18 will also be swimming in both relays and the 100 Butterfly.

Senior Audrey Grammel was on fire and dropped two seconds in her 100yard breaststroke, giving her in second place with a time of 1:04.43. She also swam her heart out in the 200 IM, which qualified her at 19th.

Ninth graders Whitney Hannallah and Abby Yakam will also be competing  and have had a tremendous season, along with Carly Shocket’18.

Congratulations also go to Tommy Mampieri, Raymond Cao, Anna Derrow, and Murphy Rubcich, Christopher Heermann, Luke Tiberi, Inji Kang, Callista Popp, Keenan Bellisari, Peter Dimaggio, David Barren, James Cao, Annalise Grammel, Taylor Warren, and Sarah Edwards for a superb season!

States will be held at the  CT Branin Natatorium Canton, Ohio, on  February 22-24. Divers compete Wednesday, followed by swimming prelims on Thursday and swimming finals on Friday.
