On Wednesday, February 8, the girls bowling team ended its season with a tough 1608-1241 loss to Bishop Ready. In her final match as a Viking, senior Maggie McCann performed at her best, along with juniors Abby Jeffers and Izzy Bettinger finishing with the top scores on the team. Junior Anna Schuff and freshmen Nikki Turley rounded out the lineup for the Vikes.
After a long season, the girls finished with a record of 1-12. They were hoping for a better one, but the girls are optimistic for next season. With only one senior graduating, the majority of the team will return.
The boys entered their final match with a record of 5-10. After a solid, if not spectacular, regular season, the boys competed in the MSL Championships. Led by senior Nick Smith, the Vikes finished as the runners-up to Whitehall. This made for a thrilling end to the season. Smith, the senior captain, said, “None of us thought we were going to qualify for the baker playoffs, so we were all surprised when we heard we were in second place after our 3 individual games. We bowled the best we have all year and beat both Grandview Heights and Worthington Christian, who we lost to during the regular season. So we were very content with 2nd place.”
As the current team is filled with nearly all seniors, it will be a very different mix next season as the Vikings find a way to bounce back.
