Girls Basketball Trudges Through More Losses

The girls’ basketball team faced another trying week in its games against Grandview Heights and London.

On Tuesday, January 31, the Vikings faced a rematch Grandview Heights, to whom they fell to 54-23 earlier in the season.  Even with an improved upon score deficit from its previous game against the Bobcats (with a six-point increase), Academy took a 49-24 loss.

Ready for another shot, the girls faced London for a second time on Saturday, February 4. The game started off slowly as the Red Raiders shutout the Vikings with a double-digit lead.Lexis Hughes ’18 sparked the team into motion when she scored Academy’s first six points. Tori Abell ’18 caught her energy as she put up two points, which Hughes soon followed with two more.

As the girls regrouped for the second half at 41-10, more players took action. Not only did Hughes score more, but Kennedy Sulton ’17, Jenny L’Hommedieu ’19, Aiyana Taylor ’19, and Kiersten Thommassey ’20 also sunk shots. Sulton’s three-pointer grabbed everyone’s attention. Although it ended 72-26, the Vikings scored more than their previous 69-23 loss to London.

Academy finishes its regular season this coming week with away games against the CSG Unicorns on Tuesday, February 7, and Bexley Lions on Friday, February 10.
