Boys Basketball Falls to Worthington Christian

The CA boys basketball team’s 9-game winning streak was finally snapped on Friday, February 3, as the Vikes lost to Worthington Christian in a battle for the MSL title.

It was all Warriors to begin the game. They raced out to a 7-0 lead and looked to be in complete control. But the Vikings quickly regained their footing, and closed to within 2 by the end of the first.

WC caught fire to begin the second quarter and their lead quickly ballooned back up to 8. Academy again had a response as junior Ryan Mitchell and sophomore Dorrian Moultrie began connecting from the deep to stay within striking distance. Moultrie then hit a floater at the buzzer to cut the Warriors lead to just 1 at the half.

Unfortunately, this was as close as CA would get.

The Vikes hit a cold spell offensively in the third quarter, and to make matters worse-could not find an answer for the Warriors’ attack. WC guard Jayden Turner repeatedly gashed the Academy defense for easy layups, as his squad rolled to a 19-8 run that spanned the entire third period.

The Vikings made an attempt at a miracle comeback, but the Warriors fended them off, winning the MSL title 60-49.

Despite the disappointing loss, the Vikes have bigger goals in mind. They may have missed out on their league title, but a district title would mean much more.

Academy will continue working towards that goal as the team hits the road to take on Wellington on  Tuesday, February 7.
