After a 67-43 win against Utica on Tuesday, January 31, Academy’s basketball team and its fans are ready for this Friday’s challenge against WC, who defeated the Vikes early in the season. The Vikes are planning to execute the same hot start that they’ve been playing in the past few games, in all of which they have triumphed.
As the Vikes faced Utica this week, Dorrian Moultrie’19 slashed through its defense and racked up 8 of his 14 points in the first quarter with senior captain Ryan Alexander capping off a ferocious breakaway dunk. Academy didn’t lose it’s momentum and kept pouring on the points, building its lead, which was as high as 36 points at one point.
With such a strong lead, some of the younger players got to see the court. Sophomores Dalyn Decree, Malcolm Klingbeil, Hayden Compton, and Evan Scott rose to the occasion and chimed in on the scoring fest. While our offense looked deadly, it was the defense that coasted the Vikings to victory. The Redskins were held to just 16 points going into halftime and showed heart and hustle in the fourth quarter-putting up 20 points. But Academy’s lead was just too much.
The Vikings face Worthington Christian in the league championship game on Friday, February 3, at home.
