The girls basketball team had a rough week, suffering four defeats out of its five games. Although they continued to improve their skills, the Vikings could not keep pace with their fierce opponents.
On Tuesday, January 24, our girls traveled to Wellington. The JV team kept a strong defense and tamed the Jaguars. The squad won 34-11. But the varsity team suffered a 49-20 loss soon afterwards.
On Thursday, January 26, the JV team took a much needed break when only the varsity team took on Patriot Academy. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the Vikings lost 49-23.
Saturday, January 28, was a tough-fought battle against Northridge. The JV team started strong and was keeping on par with the Northridge girls but was trailing by ten points at the half. Our girls came back strong at the start of the second half, but lost steam by the end of the game and were defeated 35-21.
Between the two games was the Senior Night Ceremony, as Kennedy Sulton and Morgan Hamilton were honored for their dedication to the team. After the ceremony and a photo-op, both teams took the court. Just as the JV team, the varsity girls seemed to be keeping up well, but trailed 30-18 at the half. They came back strong, narrowing the gap to only 7 points, but Northridge fought back hard and retaliated with 54-38.
Despite its string of losses, Academy has a chance to redeem itself on Tuesday, January 31, when our girls travel to Grandview Heights. The Bobcats beat the Vikings 54-23 earlier in the season.
On Saturday, February 4, in The Mack, the Vikings face London, whom our girls previously lost to 69-23.
