In Academy’s fall play, ”The Odd Couple,” presented on October 28 and 29 Florence Ungar and Olive Madison are polar opposites. Where Olive is messy, Florence is a neat freak. Plus, Olive’s “live freely” lifestyle clashes with Florence’s uptight hypochondriac personality.
Senior Maggie McCann and sophomore Sydney Edson, respectively, fill these dissonant leads with impressive timing and wit.
In a dysfunctional, amusing play featuring Flo and Olive’s relationship among an eclectic bunch of friends, their comedic timing brings a note of lightheartedness to an otherwise darkly tinted show.
When Florence moves in with Olive after her husband leaves her, hilarity ensues. Flo’s coping methods of incessant cleaning and cooking drive Olive mad, and soon, Olive is hysterical and kicks out Flo.
In a cast weighted with underclassmen, all the students who worked on the show threw themselves wholeheartedly into the production. Despite many first-time members of the cast and crew, the effort and energy that were put into the weeks of rehearsal paid off.
Despite some hiccups along the way, the show turned out to be an engaging, comic production.
I’m so sad I missed this. But I know all the stars of the show rocked it. Keep up the great work!
