In the week of October 4, the girls volleyball team continued to battle through its season of ups and downs with one loss to Worthington Christian and one win against Patriot Academy on Senior Night.

Worthington’s Christian Warriors dominated the Vikes in the first two sets with 25-17 and 25-10 wins. In the third set, however, the Vikes halted their opponent with a 25-18 victory. Academy’s hope of pulling out a win was dashed when the Warriors ended the match with a triumphant 25-22 set.

On Senior Night, October 6, the Vikes bounced back with a smashing three set win against Patriot Academy. Seniors Kami Tibbles, Morgan Hamilton, Cassie Davis, Olivia Irion, Madi Smith and Rebecca Amonor were honored with their parents before the match as the players were acknowledged for their hard and dedicated teamwork.

The girls cruised to a 25-10, 25-10, and 25-14 victory against Patriot Academy. The seniors gave outstanding performances across the board, racking up the most kills, service aces, and digs. Davis led with 17 kills, trailed by Kayla Podgurski’19 and Sophia Freytag’20 with eight apiece. Irion hit the most digs of the night with 20, followed by Tibbles and Hamilton with 13 and 11 respectively. Tibbles, who has been consistently strong throughout the season, had an outstanding performance in addition to the digs with 29 assists and four service aces.

In the previous week of September 26, the girls competed in two important league matches, again emerging with one loss to the Whitehall Rams in a back-and-forth five set series and a win against the West Jefferson Roughriders in three sets.

Co-captain Tibbleshad a positive outlook about the rest of the season saying the girls “ definitely took a step backward with the loss to Whitehall, but we came back together and pulled out by far the biggest win of the season against West Jeff-we found out what it means to play as one unit and not six individuals, and if we can keep that going, the rest of the season will be great.”

Playing as a cohesive unit will be crucial in the coming weeks as the Vikes look to move past the first round of districts for the first time in years.
