Boys Golf Outscores Bexley by Three Strokes

The CA golf team captures the 2016 MSL-Ohio Championship

The boys golf team took home the trophy from the MSL-postseason tournament on Tuesday, September 19. After losing two valuable players, Vincent Dong‘16 and Tejas Sinha‘18, the team had to carry on without them. Two new freshmen, Kahmar Byers and Ali Khan, have proved to be strong additions.

Although the MSL-postseason tournament involved many different teams, the boys focused on defeating Bexley, our school’s biggest rival. Last year, Bexley beat us during every MSL tournament and took the state champ title. Determined to get the win this year, the boys started out strong by beating them in the MSL pre-season tournament by eighteen strokes. Bexley, however, outplayed them at the mid-season tournament, tying their record 1-1.

Junior co-captain Cole Walter and Byers led the team with a pair of 75’s, while Alec Freytag‘18 followed with a 76. Senior co-captain Michael Zhang came next with a 79, and Abhi Ramaswamy‘18 and Khan shot an 80 and 81 respectively for a total score of 305. Even though Bexley took Medalist Honors, our Vikes came out on top by three shots, giving them the MSL-Ohio Champion title.

Although the boys proved to have a noteworthy performance, Walter notes, “Everyone can still improve which is a good thing because it shows we can be a really good team.”

As the boys enter post season, they have experience and confidence on their side, but they must bring their A-game to come out with the state title.
