The girls soccer team arrived back to campus this August with a discouraging outlook on the season ahead. After losing key players and plenty of injuries and illnesses,15 humble players remained to fill a sole varsity team. Thus, the girls anxiously anticipated a grueling fall filled with lengthy games and tired legs.
The Vikings, nevertheless, turned doubt into resilience. Little opportunity for substitutions meant tireless work to better endurance, but small numbers did not correlate to a lack of passion and willpower.
This was reflected in the Saturday, September 17 home game vs. Fairbanks. Through rainy weather, the girls prevailed to a 2-0 victory in front of a Community Fun Day crowd. Freshman Emma Belford netted the first goal, wiping out as the ball snuck past the goalkeeper, and Junior Apsara Som tallied on the second.
Despite the adversity the girls soccer squad faces, it encompasses virtues of dedication and team spirit that the CA community values even more than a victory.
