Districts in track started last Tuesday, May 17th, and finished Saturday, May 21, with Academy’s girls placing second out of 16 teams. The relay teams had especially strong performances.

In the 4×800, Maddie Tuckerman’19, Cobi Warstler’16, Louise Rosler’16, and Audrey Grammel’17 finished second place with a time of 10:07.77.

The 4×200 team of Jessica Griffin’17, Briyana Dragin’18, Rosler, and Ginnie Ma’19 cut two seconds of their prelim time, finishing in 1:49.34, to move up to first place in the finals.

Griffin, Warstler, Rosler, and Grammel pulled off another first place finish in the 4×400.

Individually, Grammel was a star of the day, finishing the 1600 meter run in 5:21.63, giving her first place by a margin of over 10 seconds. Grammel also finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.81. Warstler was not far behind with a time of 2:27.17, putting her in fourth place out of 25 contenders.

In the 200 meter dash, Griffin ended in fourth out of 28 at 27.45 seconds.

Ma finished very strongly in the 300 meter hurdles, ending with a time of 52.32 seconds to put her in fifth place out of a starting field of 21. Ma also finished third in the long jump of 15-05.5 feet, landing over a foot farther than she did in prelims.

In discus, Khloe Debenion’18 finished in fifth place in a large contender pool with a throw of 96-06.

With the girls team finishing second overall, this year’s district tournament was a great success for a team that has been waiting to show its hard work and skill all year.
