Boys Track Perseveres After Several Letdowns

Boys track had a rough meet in this first round of post-season, but they fought through and many have qualified for this week’s regionals. Not only is this quite an accomplishment, but the team also placed first over all.

Starting off with a high note, Jerome Buckner’18 and Kevin Boyce’17 both qualified for regionals in the 400 meter dash. Seated second and third, respectively after prelims, Buckner finished first at 50.47 and Boyce second with a time of 50.95 at district finals.

In the 800, seniors Logan Baker’16 and Atticus Lee’16 took it easy at prelims, but booked it when finals came around and placed first and second, respectively, with times of 1:57.96 and 2:03.35.

With finishes at second and fifth in the mile, both Nicholas Robie’18 and Nicholas Watson’18 made the cut. Robie finished with a time of 4:37.00 and Watson with 4:49.56.

The relays are where the team’s heartbreak set in: both the 4×400 and 4×100 were disqualified, leaving the team in despair. But the boys pushed through and qualified for both the 4×800 and 4×200.

After weathering several disappointments, the boys never gave up and are looking forward to the regional and state track meets.
