The boys track team took first-place at a five team meet against Bishop Ready, Northridge, Madison Christian, and Northside Christian on Tuesday, May 3rd.
Academy had a strong showing in the 1600 meter run. Atticus Lee’16, Andrew Heermann’16, Nick Robie’18, and Nick Watson’18 swept first through fourth-places, respectively, with times all within a second and a half of each other.
In the boys 800 meter run, Grayson Mick’17 ran to a comfortable first-place finish with a time of 2:14.57.
Control of the leaderboard was also seen in the 400 meter dash. Jerome Buckner’18, Kevin Boyce Jr.’17, and Dylan Warren’17 easily took places one through three with times of 51.13, 51.33, and 56.81 seconds, respectively.
Buckner and Boyce again took first and second places, but this time in the 200 meter dash, finishing with times of 23.84 and 25.55 seconds, respectively.
In the 300 meter hurdles, Hunter Moffett’17 took first place at 44.65 seconds, and Tommy Mampieri’17 took second-not far behind.
Particular strength was seen in the relay teams. Academy finished first in all of its relays. The A, B, and C 4×800 meter teams took first through third-place, the 4×200 managed the win with a time of 1:41.39, and the A and B 4×400 relay teams finished first and second, with times of 3:43.94 and 3:54.70.
In throwing, Jacob Taub’17 continued to show his skill and strength with a discus throw of 104-02 and a shot put throw of 33-07.00.
Academy’s all-around good performances give promise to the outlook for the rest of the regular season. More than that, the great performances that the team has had all year in events like relays indicate a strong potential for impressive postseason results.
