On Thursday evening of April 29, upper school students and teahcers received an email with an attached special schedule, a vague hint about a guest speaker, and most importantly, the promise of a dress-down day. As students arrived on Friday, they were content in comfortable clothes but confused about what was to come.
At 10:30am, all classes made their way down to the theater for the “assembly.” As the students chatted among themselves, the lights shut off. From the darkness came Lawson’s voice, declaring, “Law-Tis is back.” With one more call to the seniors and faculty, Lawson and Otis led the school through an archway of balloons down to the lacrosse fields. As everyone came over the hill, they were greeted by inflatable obstacle courses, bouncy houses, corn hole, badminton, a video game truck, human-sized hamster balls, and even Super Bubble Soccer.
Since October, the seniors on student council had been planning one last grand surprise for the student body. With APs and exams on the horizon, they secretly arranged the “CA Breakout,” as a chance for everyone to de-stress and have fun for a few hours. With the council’s impeccable planning and cooperation with the administration, the secret was kept for several months. The surprise was a success!.
So we extend a great “thank you” to the student council seniors for letting us be kids for an afternoon and giving us a chance to play.
