On Tuesday, April 19, Academy faced Patriot Academy, Fairfield Union, and Tree of Life on an ideal, spring day that ended with the Vikings taking second place overall.
One of Academy’s signature strengths, its relay teams, did more to confirm our high expectations of them for the season. The state title winning 4×400 relay team pulled off a comfortable first place finish with a time of 3:44.55. In the 4×800 relay, Academy’s runners cinched both first and second place by wide margins.

The relay teams’ performances were aided by Vike runners’ 800 meter results. In the meet’s most impactful performance, Nick Robie’18, Dylan Warren’17, Nick Watson’18, and Chris Heerman’16 took places first through fourth, respectively.

A similar highlight occurred in the 1600 meter event, with Heerman, Robie, Atticus Lee’16, and Grayson Mick’17 showing their strength by taking first, second, third, and fifth places.

Kevin Boyce’17 continued his great performance in the 400 meter dash with another first place finish of 51.33 seconds:  faster than his first place finish last week. Academy took two of the top five places in this event.

Hunter Moffett’17 and Tommy Mampieri’17 have had consistently strong records in hurdles, earning them second and third places in the 300’s.

A close look at the Viking’s second-place finish shows the team’s uniformity and individual strength. Its consistency of placing high up in many events gives the team a promising outlook for the season and post-season.

Academy’s next track meet is on Tuesday, April 26, at Columbus School for Girls, with Bexley and Grandview Heights also in attendance.
