Boys Lacrosse Finds Its Groove

On Monday, April 11, the boys lacrosse team visited Gahanna Lincoln for a matchup against the Golden Lions. The Vikings bounced back from a devastating loss against Granville with 16-6 romp over Lincoln. Academy raced out to an early lead and maintained it, never allowing the Lions to come within 3 goals. Senior Otis Klingbeil led the Vikings with 4 goals, yet Academy’s defense that was equally impressive. Led by senior captain Jamie Barren and junior Anthony Sugar, the Vikes suffocated the Lions’ offense and held them to their second-worst scoring output of the year. With a winning record in tow, Academy looked to continue its momentum with another win.

On Thursday, April 14, the Vikes again entered enemy territory as they took on Wellington. Academy impressed again, coming hot out of the gates and never looking back on its way to a 17-2 victory. It was a rough day for the Wellington offense, as the Dukes simply had no answer for the hounding Academy defense. Klingbeil, and his younger brother, freshman Malcolm, combined for almost half of the Vikings’ goals to carry the offense. With two straight dominating victories, Academy was prepared for a much tougher matchup the next day at home.

On Friday, April 15, the Vikings took on a very good Hilliard Bradley team. Five goals from senior Daniel Stulhdreher was not enough for the Jaguars, as Academy prevailed at  14-9. The Klingbeil brothers, along with senior captain, Ryan Cullen, junior Roman Bellisari, and freshman, David Barren, scored all 14 goals for the Vikes. Goalkeeper Dalton Porter also starred for Academy, making 6 saves. With the win, the Vikes improved to 5-2 on the season.

It was a good week for the Vikings, but they will need to be ready on Wednesday, April 20, when they put their 3 game win streak on the line for a home game against DeSales (4-1).
